We remember Washington for all his bravery,
And remember the British and their tea.
We remember the war for the Declaration of Independence,
then rewarded the soldiers for their benevolence.
But we won’t remember Carlisle Indian Industrial School:
Where Native Americans were tortured, under someone’s else’s rule.
It’s remembered and reminded of us: the right of Roe v. Wade,
A freedom women fought for, a choice that in the end, was taken away–
The Land of the free!” that’s all we ever hear,
But freedom hasn’t always been equal or clear.
We remember freedom, and for our voices being heard
But now immigrants are left in ICE camps, stranded and unable to use their words…
One nation: under God, indivisible
With liberty, and justice, for some.
